Reflection of Project
According to Alimisis (2006), robotic technologies are not seen as a tool, but rather as a potential carries of new ways of thinking about teaching, learning and education. This project encourages the students to participate in decision making, implementation and evaluation of the project. At first, we have small discussion with our group members to decide out theme and concept for the project. With some references from the internet and books, we decided to do something related with environment and home. After the discussion, we are produces a product for home and environment. It is auto cleaner named Qaseh. During the construction of this project, there are some problems encountered. In every session, we will argue and discuss the best solutions for each problem. We also asked some advices and opinions from our classmates and lecturers. As a result, all of us can overcome any problems or circumstances and build up our project, auto cleaner.
From a few weeks learnt about robotics, we found that this is valuable subject for us. At first, we found that this is a simple subject. However, we believed that robotic is tough subject but we tried to make it interesting with having fun while constructing the variety of robots. In addition, we also needed to understand well the program that applicable to move the robot. We have more practices to develop the program for our robots. We also applied try and error method to observe the program whether it is appropriate with our project or not. Goh and Baharuddin (2007) argued that the students were concentrating on solving project-related problem and working together with their group mate. Most of the students mentioned that teamwork was helpful in order creatively design a robot that functions well.
Lastly, we realized that robotic subject is useful for our children/students especially in primary school. With having a robotic subject formally in the class, it can give good exposure to the students. Nowadays, the robotic subject has widely spread in Malaysia education field but only concentrated in competition. If the robotics can be implement as a teaching aids in Science, Mathematics, Technology and Living Skills. It is also can motivate the students to learn in the classroom. The students who engage in the design and construction of robot actively engaged in their own learning, developing problem-solving skills, utilizing higher order thinking skill and often working collaboratively (Chamber and Carbonaro, 2003).
